The cable is a 22 Ga., twisted pair w/shield and a drain wire. Note, the outer jacket is direct burial and rated @ 600 volts. This cable buried in a PVC pipe provides excellent short protection from grounded circuits and lightning.
It switches one leg only, this is what allows the clock to operate normally.

That system will actually do that for you, the ‘UT-2500’ part of the system (doorbell) also functions as a magnetic contact sensor to operate as a door switch.
